Re-Launch of Stories and More

We have had a little make over, a re-fresh if you will, and we want to know your thoughts.

Stories and More has been running now for around 6 years and since then we have definitely grown. What started out as a company that would run little workshops in schools, has now become a Storytelling hub of activity! We have many strings to our bow and we felt like we needed to gather them up and put them somewhere pretty to show them off. Hence the new website!

blocks1The new site is child friendly, bright, fresh and mobile friendly too! We wanted to keep things simple and easy, as life is too complicated as it is, so we changed our logo to reflect this too – crisp, clean and appealing to all ages.

We will make sure that the site is always being updated, with blogs, news and offers, that way you know exactly where to go to find out all the latest information.

But what else is new?

Have you seen our Adventure Blocks? Our new product that is set to take storytelling to the next level in schools and at events. The perfect way to get children’s imaginations running.

Our school workshops and parties have also been given a little lift – just to keep us ‘down with the kids’, with new themes and styles of workshops added.

We also have an OCTOBER SALE This is where you can receive a lovely 15% off any booking which is made during the month of October – isn’t that a nice treat!

So, let us know your thoughts, spread the word to your friends and have a look around our new website. We love our new look and we hope you do too!

Why is Storytelling Important?

Here at Stories and More we pride ourselves on our storytelling, but why do we do it? Why do we think that it is so important for a young child’s growth?

For generations Storytelling has been a part of our culture, a way of entertaining, touching emotions or to inform. But it also sparks imagination and with that comes creativity, a feeling that anything is possible, you can be anyone, do anything because you can imagine it being so. This in turn helps with confidence, a way of helping those shy children express themselves without feeling like they are ‘doing it wrong’.

schoolChildren are experts at visualising a world that you have described and they will enjoy adding the finishing touches to it. Maybe a character you hadn’t yet thought of, or a river around the corner that you didn’t know was there. Their minds are incredible and far more superior in the world of imagination then us grown ups. As we grow we don’t tend to use this part of our brain, we swap it for the TV, video games, work and facts of everyday life. So we forget how to use it, how to imagine the impossible.

So isn’t it more important than ever to encourage children to embrace all this while they can? Build their confidence with ‘yes you’re right’ and ‘what a fantastic idea’ instead of the ‘don’t be silly’ and ‘not right now’. Spend that time storytelling with them, let them lead you into your imagination and I am sure you will be surprised at what they come up with.

This is why we do what we do, because this time of a child’s life is precious and if storytelling helps to make the most of it then shouldn’t we all be doing it?

A Local Library Adventure!

libraryEvery Summer Buckinghamshire Libraries invite Stories and More in to run our interactive story sessions.

Last week, we visited Amersham and Chesham libraries and had a wonderful time with all the children that attended. The rest of the library is closed so we can make as much noise as we want, which is always lots of fun! Together, with the children, we created a brand new story all based around Roald Dahls books, which is this years reading challenge theme, it was brilliant.

Sessions like these are so important for children, it’s a chance to let them be themselves and make new friends by interacting with new children they have never met before. It’s wonderful to see them being so confidence and wanting to get up, to play characters, in front of complete strangers.

A library is a magical place for a child, it is a place where they know it is ok to sit and wonder through their imaginations, read and connect with wonderful stories. It’s so important that we support our local libraries and attend the events they hold for children and young ones to keep them going. Getting books out from the library is a great way to keep reading fresh for your children, every night they could be reading a new book, without spending out on hundreds of books that sit on the shelf for years. Instead they could be excited about searching the library for their next adventure!

The easiest thing we can offer a child is chance to use their imagination and help it grow, so why not check out your local library and start this today.
